Islam's view on Gender Equality by Ustadza Yasmin Mogahed

There was a question posted to Ustadza Yasmin Mogahed, a speaker and writer based on California.  "On March 18, 2005 Amina Wadud led the first female-led Jumu`ah Prayer. On that day, women took a huge step towards being more like men. But, did we come closer to actualizing our God-given liberation?"She replied "Thank you for your inspiring question! Well, I don’t think so.""What we so often forget is that God has honored women by giving them value in relation to God not in relation to men. Hijab - Are we wearing it as we ought to?

Hijab is more than just covering our hair. But also aurah. Does wearing longer hijab means that we are more pious? More knowledgeable about Islam? Does it mean we deserved heaven more than others? Definitely No. I started out with simple short ones too. In fact, I was always looking for the fanciest hijab to put on or learning the most unique way of donning my shawl. And what was left of them were only the stories for us to learn from the mistakes that they made. Scholars say that Sabr has three...

Missing Ramadhan

What is syawal to you? I guess it first depends on the age group you are in. Kids will view syawal differently as teens. While kids enjoy the monetary rewards, sweet treats and continuous play from house to house, teens, probably dread the visiting but they don't mind certain houses. They don't mind strutting in their new Eid outfits and probably looking forward for the gatherings with their schoolmates the most. A few years back, I look forward to making Hari Raya memorable for my children, it is the house, the food, the matching Eid outfit, the gatherings, etc. A little bit of everything.  Until I started to pay more attention to Ramadhan. The beauty of Ramadhan. I was surrounded by...
